Why does the IronKey Workspace device seem to generate more heat than a standard flash drive?

There are a couple of reasons why this may occur:

  • USB 3.0 device may get warmer as USB 3.0 uses higher wattage than USB 2.0.
  • Windows-To-Go devices have a much higher utilization (more read and write operations) compared to a device used only for portable data storage.

Tips and Tricks:

  • If possible, connect your device to a port that is away from the system chassis fan.
  • You can purchase a short USB 3.0 extension cable to distance your device from your system.*
  • Lock and disconnect your IronKey Workspace device when it is not in use.

* If you use a USB 2.0 cable, read/write performance will drop.
