Can a virus or Other malware change the boot partition of the IronKey CD-ROM Volume

The IronKey device does not use a boot partition to launch the IronKey Control Panel. Therefore this is not a concern.

  • On Windows, IronKey uses an "autorun.inf" file to automatically launch the IronKey.exe file from the CD volume.
  • On Mac OS, the IronKey Control Panel is only launched automatically if the user installs the IronKey Auto-Launch Assistant on their computer.
  • On Linux, IronKey doesn't provide a mechanism to automatically launch its software.

The CD-ROM Volume itself is read only, and has safeguards built into the firmware which prevent anyone other than IronKey from altering its' contents. If any attempted changes to the CD Drive are detected, the user will get a warning of this, the CD-ROM drive won't mount on your computer, and a utility will run that will allow a user to restore the device to approved IronKey contents.
