The ability to reset a device has been discussed, and some devices were even created that support this. Personal devices cannot be reset to their initial state. Most Basic devices cannot be reset either. If however, the Basic device you possess is version 1.103.0.0, it does have the ability to be reset.

To check the version number:

  1. Insert and unlock your IronKey device.
  2. Enable "Caps Lock" on your computer.
  3. Click the IronKey Control Panel logo (in the upper left-hand corner of the IronKey Control Panel). Additional information about your device appears at the top of the Control Panel.

If your device has Build 1.103.0.0, then you can do the following to reset it. Note that all data will be erased, including any website passwords you have saved.

  1. Unlock your Basic device, and go to "Settings" > "Preferences".
  2. Ensure the "Enable Device Reset Option in IronKey Unlocker in case I forget my password" checkbox is selected.
  3. Click the "Lock Drive" button to close your IronKey Control Panel.
  4. Launch the IronKey Unlocker program.
  5. Enter the wrong password for your device.  A warning indicates that the password was incorrect.
  6. Click the "Reset Device" button.
  7. Click "Yes" when prompted.

Your device will be reset, and when you next try to use it, you will be prompted to re-initialize it.

NOTE: Enterprise devices can be reset ("recommissioned") by the system administrator.
